...And I will be giving a talk on Moose, on all the things I've learned using it, and you will get the chance to see some of my most embarrassing code (and get a good laugh at me). Additionally I will quote Tolkien and demonstrate the relationship between the the quest to destroy the Ruling Ring and software development.
Here's the meetup linkage: http://www.meetup.com/The-New-York-Perl-Meetup-Group/events/59990662/
We've hosted a few Meetups here at Shutterstock in the past quarter and they've gone really well. We even hired someone at the last, so bring your resume!
And regarding spreading the word about this talk: I'd appreciate all the help I can get to let people know about this and encourage people to show up. Bring yourself! Bring your children! Bring your dog! The last two meetups we had here at Shutterstock covered Javascript projects, and we had good attendance, which has resulted in all the people playing with node.js walking around and gloating about how much more popular node.js is over Perl. So help me shut them up! We have 60 people at the last and I am serious about packing the house in support of Modern Perl and Moose. We will have food, beer, a hiring manager and special bonus awards for whoever comes from the furthest point on Earth, as well as whoever brings the most people. Plus, I think I'm an awesome presenter, so you have a reasonable chance of learning something, and a very high probability of being entertained.
I'm aiming this talk both at people that know and already praise Perl, as well as people that work at companies that need to support Perl but might not be feeling the love. So spread the word around!
